Into Dreams reflects the space in between the minutes between being awake and falling asleep, in the moments of being simultaneously both and neither, when the world around you slowly slips away as we drift off. The premiere program of Tori and Cathy’s featured pieces that were “in transition” between places, and being a new parent at that time, that was one transition I knew well. Our son was born during the third month of my graduate degree. From there, we endured many sleepless days and nights, living in the moments between wakefulnesss and rest for weeks at a time.
The music focuses on sustained chords that stack, particularly on the vibraphone, but also feature the clarinet colour weaving in and out of the texture; sometimes atop it, sometimes beneath it, and right in the middle other times.
