Black Bear

SKU: 202301 Category: Tags: ,

This Level 2 work is a setting of the rollicking Lake Winnipeg folk song, Black Bear. Originally about a fishing station in Central Manitoba, this piece gives the whole ensemble a chance to lean into the lilting rhythm of 6/8 by giving every member of the band something to do. It starts in Bb major, modulates to Eb in the middle using only chromatics, then ends in Bb major, lasting about two minutes in total. If you’re looking for Canadian content for your young band, this piece will be a great fit!

Note: This piece was initially graded at Level 1.5, but leans closer to a Level 2.
